I will be honest with you. I love books. I like sitting with them and leafing through them. Prior to looking at Katherine’s electronic version of her wildly popular sock book…And A Time To Knit Stockings, the few e-books that I did look through were frankly less than tempting.
This version is nicely done. It comes in a nice heavy paper sleeve (heavier than card stock), which opens up like a little book. the inside cover has a picture of the knitting on the left, with information on new content. The CD fits in a pocket on the right, and the face of the pocket includes instructions for using the CD. New on the CD are color photographs of the socks, a how-to section with techniqes used in the socks, an additional heel technique, two new sock patterns, and a sound clip of Katherine’s mamma talking about how she was taught to knit by her Grandpa Jim when she was 6, a story included in the original book but enhanced in the electronic version with the sound clip. There is also instruction on reading charts. As always, her charts are well done and neatly laid out.
This book in the original format was one of the best seller’s for Unicorn Books and Crafts, and as I mentioned before was wildly popular. I remember Katherine’s reaction when she discovered that the out of print book was going for $50 each on the internet. She was bemused, surprised, maybe a little appalled. $50 is a lot of money. I don’t recall if that is when she started considering offering it in the electronic format or not, but it certainly gave her something to think about. Her little book was perhaps more popular than she had thought.
This electronic book, with the addition of color photos, expanded instrucitons on techniques, two new patterns, sound clip, and the ability to print out working copies on your own printer rather than having to go to the copy store to make a copy, is a very nice offering to follow the printed and bound version which has been out of print for some time now. Sock knitters, rejoice! An old favorite is back, expanded on, and better than ever.
Further information on the book is on our website. Disclaimer: I don’t benefit from the proceeds of this book in any way. Katherine is a respected friend and mentor, and I am happy to share the news that this delightful book is back.
Peace and Knitting, JoLene
