Where Have You Been: Hello, Flinke Nadel - Stricktagebuch

Filed under: Musings, Reader's Blogs — jolenetreace @ 9:02 am

It is really fascinating how the earth is “smaller” with today’s technology. As many of you know from time to time I like to post blogs that have a link to mine, and here is one from perhaps Germany or somewhere similar. I cannot tell where the country of origin is and the language looks like German.

At any rate, one thing that is nice about Flinke Nadel - Stricktagebuch is the option to view it in English or Duetsch. A very nice touch for those who are not in Germany or a German speaking country.

As far as a physical presence, I have been at home a lot lately. With my husband being at Fort Knox, there is more to do around the house and our remodel job is underway. I now have a toilet and washer in my kitchen/dining area, and the only public bathroom is now gutted.

I have been taking pictures along the way and later I will post some. The guys have been great, but it is somewhat of a distraction. It is hard to do design work in the middle of, when it is both noisy and fascinating. Having a curious mind, it has been fun to watch.

I have a new design going into the next Interweave book in the “Simple” Series, and I need to write up the pattern and get it off to my test knitter.

Oh, yes. It is not quite 8am. I am not used to getting up early every day…but it does help me catch up with things before I hit the design work.

I hope you all have a great day.

Wow! What Color! Knitting On Impulse

Filed under: Knitting Community, Reader's Blogs — jolenetreace @ 10:24 am

Knitting On Impulse has a post on September 13 called Patterns in Nature. This is a subject near and dear to my heart, as I am often inspired by nature.

In this post she has a photograph which is then converted to a graph, and some other little patterns to go with it. What a great sense of color. I can see it knit with silk and beads. Or just maybe silk. Not a lot of beads, just a few.

I am going to pop back later to this site myself, as there is a lot to look at. The photography alone is quite inspiring. She has a web store also with Artisan Jewelry. Can you hear me groaning? Groaning because it really is too lovely and I know I am going to have to get some.

At any rate, an enjoyable read and thanks for the link on your blog roll.

Wine and Roses Mitts at Blue Frog Studio

Filed under: Knitting Community, Reader's Blogs — jolenetreace @ 10:12 am

Pennsylvania knitter Lillian learned how to knit in  2006, and already has her own blog. Plus, she knitted my Wine and Roses mitts that were in Interweave.

Kudos to you, Lillian, you will have a lot of fun over the years with your knitting.

Lillian’s blog is called Blue Frog Studio.

Reader’s Blog: Issues With Knitting

Issues With Knitting is a blog I first came across when I was lamenting fine yarn phobia. Laurie has an enjoyable blog, with some nice photos of some impressive knitting. She has quite an impressive list of links to blogs, too, I might add.

Hi Laurie! I still have folks coming by my blog from your comment in September on your blog regarding my post about yarns!

Knitsisters: Hi Ellen and Sarah!

I love the blog, Knit Sisters. It is written by two sisters who are knitters, hence the name of their blog. They are so funny, and they are very good knitters. The kind of knitters I would love to hang out with, were I to live nearby. Witty and unafraid. Anyway, I had a link followed from their blog to mine (although you won’t find it by my name or the name of my blog…you can search it under Wine and Roses, as the mitts from Interweave Knits are on the blog. Quite lovely they are, too, as all the knitting is.

I really need to list you gals in my blog roll, as your blog is such entertaining reading. Cheers, ladies!

Bunny Egg Covers: Too Cute

My list sister from Indiana Knits, Vickie, has a blog called Simple Knits. She has a knitting pattern on her blog for some Bunny Egg Covers. They are cute, and you may have fun using up odd bits of yarn with this one.

I don’t remember if I mentioned Simple Knits before or not, but I have them show up frequently in my blog stats as a site that people click a link to my blog from. She has some other fun things there too.

It is a beautiful spring day. I am passing the time before I have to go into the hospital and work this evening. I step outdoors and the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and the birds are singing so much, the air is full of their song. If I did not have to work, I would take my knitting outside and absorb the wonder that is Spring. I would probably take my laptop with me, as I have some designs to complete and get off to my test knitters.

Reader’s Blog: Knitting On Impulse

Filed under: Reader's Blogs, Uncategorized — jolenetreace @ 6:52 pm

Knitting On Impulse is another fascinating blog I have run into when looking at my blog stats. There is a section that shows links people click on to get to my blog, and that is where I look to find some of the interesting sites I have been able to share with you. There is some really beautiful photography, as well as some very interesting discussion on color. A well done job.

I really am going to need to go through my pages and add some of the blogs I have shared with you and put them in the blog roll.

I wish you all the very best…

Knitterama, an Interesting Read

Here is another blog that showed up in my blog stats. Knitterama is an entertaining site. If you love knitting socks you should enjoy this blog. There is also a very nice collection of links in the blogroll, which should make for hours of fun internet surfing.

Viini ja ruusuja - Wine and Roses

Here is an interesting blog I ran across in my blog stats. Till Dawn is a blog from Finland, and Wine and Roses was a design talked about on the blog. It does have English text underneath the regular text. It is interesting seeing what knitters are up to in other countries, and for those of you who are bilingual, my hat is off to you.

It always amazes me where I run into designs of mine that knitters are working on. Many of you know I work part time as an RN (registered nurse) at a local hospital. I am a house float, so I work all over the hospital. One evening when I was working in the ICU (intensive care unit), I was showing off the newly published Handknit Holidays by Melanie Falick, as I have three designs in it. One of the ICU nurses said “You are going to be famous one day, and I can say I worked with you!” I laughed and said, “you mean, I empty bed pans with her!” I am quite certain that without being in the league of Lilly Chin, Melissa Leapman, and so on, that I will still be working part time as a nurse no matter what twists and turns occur in my career as a knitting designer. That is quite okay, as I am happy with what I am doing. Although in all honesty I would like to do a book and I have some ideas up my sleeve…

Reader’s Blog: Hello Riverknitter

Filed under: Reader's Blogs, The Design Process — jolenetreace @ 11:09 am

Awhile back, I had posted a couple blogs who had shown up in my blog stats here on Word Press. There is a category that shows links knitters have taken to get to my blog, and that is how I am able to see them.

Besides the links for bloglines and other feeds, there are of course links from rings, such as the Independent Knitwear Designers Ring. There are a number of very good independent designers in this ring, so if you want to check them out follow the links at the bottom right for this ring.

This blogger is from Manhattan, and has a post about a hawk sighting (Feb. 23). I have often said that inspiration can be found just about anywhere, and this is a good example. I clicked on the link on her blog for information on the Red Tailed Hawk, and it is truly a beautiful bird.  A beautiful colorway from the bird alone would be magnificent, wonderful for the fall, a chic urban number that would be a blend between sophistication and relaxation. Think of Starbucks in the park.

WooHoo! I feel a design coming on…
