The Association of Knitwear Designers

I am a member of the Association of Knitwear Designers at the professional level. This is a really good organization if you are a designer who wants to really do this beyond a hobby.

The following is from the organizations web site: “The ASSOCIATION OF KNITWEAR DESIGNERS (AKD) is an independent organization dedicated to the promotion of the art and business of knitting. AKD provides networking, professional accreditation, and help to freelance knitwear designers worldwide. With two levels of membership, Professional and Associate, we strive to fill the needs of designers at every level”.

This is also an excellent resource for those in the business to find qualified teachers, authors, and designers. The industry communicates with our organization and by extension a large number of qualified professionals when they have calls for submissions, product changes, and any other important industry news they want to get out to designers and other related knitting professionals. This is done through the organizations newsletter, which also includes fashion forecasts, color trends and interesting articles related to the industry.  More information can be had at the Association for Knitwear Designers web site regarding accreditation, levels of membership, and member benefits.
